Count down to a wedding date and get the four preparation dates that matter along with it. The headline number is how many days are left, and the tool also reports weeks and whole months. Underneath are the dates twelve months, six months, one month and one week before the wedding, each already worked out as a real calendar day with its own weekday — which is what you need to book a venue, send invitations or confirm numbers. A date that has already passed still returns figures, with a minus sign.

Formula

days until the wedding = wedding date minus today; each milestone date = the wedding date shifted back by 12, 6 or 1 months, or by 7 days

weddingDate
The date being counted towards; a past date counts backwards rather than failing
daysRemaining
Signed days from today to the wedding: positive before, zero on the day, negative after
weeksRemaining
The same span in weeks, to one decimal place
monthsRemaining
Whole months only; the partial month at the end is counted in days instead
weekday
The weekday of the wedding itself, counted from Sunday — the first thing guests ask
milestone12Months
The day twelve months before the wedding, the usual moment to book a venue
milestone6Months
Six months before, when most invitations go out
milestone1Month
One month before, when final numbers are usually confirmed
milestone1Week
Seven days before, for the last round of confirmations

Use this wedding countdown calculator as soon as a date is fixed, because the useful output is not the countdown but the four dates under it. A couple who know the wedding is in June can see at a glance that the venue milestone has already gone by and the invitation milestone is next month. The month milestones clamp to the end of a month when there is no matching day, so a wedding on 30 March has its one-month milestone on 28 February rather than 2 March. What it is not is a wedding planning timeline: it does not tell you what to do at each milestone, because those are conventions that differ by country, and they are written out in the questions below rather than baked into the arithmetic.

Worked examples

  1. A wedding on 19 June 2027, counted from 15 January 2026

    1. 15 January 2026 to 19 June 2027 is 365 days to 15 January 2027 plus 155 more, giving 520 days
    2. 520 divided by seven is 74.29, which rounds to 74.3 weeks
    3. Seventeen whole months take you to 15 June 2027; the remaining four days are not a month
    4. 19 June 2027 is a Saturday — a weekend date, as most weddings are
    5. The milestones fall on 19 June 2026, 19 December 2026, 19 May 2027 and 12 June 2027

The four dates are the point of the page. Knowing there are 520 days left is trivia; knowing the twelve-month milestone has already passed is a decision.

  2. A wedding on 30 March 2026 — the clamping month

    1. 15 January 2026 to 30 March 2026 is 16 days of January plus 28 of February plus 30 of March, giving 74 days
    2. 74 divided by seven is 10.57, which rounds to 10.6 weeks
    3. Two whole months take you to 15 March 2026, leaving 15 days
    4. 30 March 2026 is a Monday
    5. One month before is 28 February 2026, not 2 March: there is no 30 February, so the date clamps to the last day of that month

The clamping is the one place where the month milestones can surprise you, and only the one-month milestone is close enough to a short month to be affected in most cases.

  3. A wedding on 19 June 2025, already held

    1. 19 June 2025 is 210 days before 15 January 2026, so days remaining reads minus 210
    2. 210 divided by seven is exactly 30, so the weeks figure is a clean minus 30
    3. Six whole months is minus 6 — the count runs backwards through the same arithmetic
    4. 19 June 2025 was a Thursday
    5. The four milestone dates are still reported: they are the days before the wedding, and they all sit further in the past

Nothing throws on a past date. On the day itself the three figures are all zero and the four milestones remain valid dates, which is the day the page is most likely to be opened.

Limitations

The four milestones are a planning convention, not a rule: twelve, six, one month and one week are round numbers chosen because they map onto booking, invitations, numbers and final confirmations in many countries, and nothing about the arithmetic makes them correct for yours. Suppliers in some places book out further ahead than twelve months and in others far less. Milestones that fall on a month with no matching day clamp to that month's last day, the same rule the add days tool uses. Weekend days are not counted here, and no public holidays are skipped — the milestone dates are plain calendar dates. As with any countdown, today is read as a whole UTC calendar day and the figure is recalculated in your browser when the page loads, so it can differ by a day from the calendar on your wall in the hours after midnight well east of UTC.

Frequently asked questions

How many days until my wedding?
Enter the date and read the top figure. From 15 January 2026 a wedding on 19 June 2027 is 520 days away, which is 74.3 weeks or 17 whole months. The count is anchored on today's UTC calendar day, so it will read one day differently from a local calendar in the hours after midnight in time zones well ahead of UTC.
When should invitations go out?
The six-month milestone is the date most couples work from for save-the-dates and invitations, and the tool prints it as a real day: for a wedding on 19 June 2027 that is 19 December 2026. If guests are travelling internationally, add another two to three months, which the twelve-month milestone already covers.
Why is one month before 30 March shown as 28 February?
Because there is no 30 February, so the date clamps to the last day of that month. The same rule gives 29 February in a leap year. This is the convention spreadsheet software uses, and it is why the one-month milestone can be 28, 29, 30 or 31 days before the wedding rather than always thirty.
What weekday is my wedding on?
The tool reports it directly, counting from Sunday as day 0. A Saturday date is reported as day 6 — and Saturday is the day most weddings fall on, which is why weekend dates are contested and priced higher. Checking the weekday before confirming a date is worth more than checking anything else about it.
Does the countdown still work after the wedding?
Yes. A past date returns negative figures — a wedding on 19 June 2025 reads minus 210 days from 15 January 2026 — and the four milestone dates are still listed, sitting further back in the past. Nothing throws an error, because the day the page is most likely to be opened is the day itself, when every figure is zero.
